Drypoint with John Robinson
Drypoint is an intaglio method that does not use acid. Participants will scratch an image directly into a plate with a sharp pointed tool. Ink is applied to the scratched lines and excess wiped away. Using dampened paper and an etching press to apply pressure a print is made.
During this one day workshop we will cover a couple of different plastic plates and one small metal plate. The images will be printed with a water washup oil based ink. Layering of multiple plates will be covered. Participants will go home with at least 3 printed images of their own.
This is a great workshop for beginners a selection of tools will be available to use and discuss what is needed to start out on your drypoint journey.
Participants to bring,
- A selection of images that will fit an A5 (21 x 15cm) sized plate and a 10cm square plate.
- Any tools that you want to try out. (tools to use during workshop are supplied)
- Any favourite paper that you want to try out.
A materials levy of $20 each participant will be charged.
ABOUT JOHN… John Robinson is the owner/operator of Moving Creature Studio in Lindisfarne. He has an extensive background in helping printmakers learn all methods of printmaking. During his time as a technical officer at UTAS John was involved reducing the use of some of the more toxic printmaking methods.
John’s own art practice uses all the methods that he teaches, often using a method that he has recently been teaching. John regularly exhibits in group shows and works with community groups.
