A 2-Day Introduction to development of and printing from solar plates (also called Photo Etching) with Diane Masters
Workshops
Di Masters will introduce you to the development and printing of solar plates. The solar plate is like an etching plate – ink is applied as in etching. The plate is created by the sun and can be used multiple times.

- 1. Applying the photoresist:

A light-sensitive polymer is applied to a metal sheet.

- 2. Exposing to UV light:
-
A mask with the desired pattern is placed over the coated metal, and it’s exposed to UV light.

- 3. Developing the image:
-
The UV light causes the photoresist to harden in exposed areas, forming a protective layer.

- 4. Etching:
-
An etchant solution is used to dissolve the unprotected metal, leaving behind the desired shape.

- 5. Removing the photoresist:
-
The hardened photoresist is then removed, leaving the finished, precisely etched metal component.
